The Music & Arts School of Door County will host a Beginner Salsa Series of workshops beginning Nov. 7. Partners are not required to participate. The series will consist of four progressive group lessons, held every Monday at 7:30 pm for four weeks.

The Gibraltar Historical Association of Fish Creek will close the Gibraltar Talk Series with its final history program, “An Immigrant’s Journey,” on Nov. 11.

The Sister Bay Lions are again sponsoring the annual Halloween Party for the little goblins at the Sister Bay Fire Station on Oct. 31 beginning at 6 pm.

The Door County YMCA will host their first “Dance Hall Days” event, bringing back the steps of Fred and Ginger with an evening of dancing at the Northern Door Program Center on Nov. 4.

On October 28 and 29, in conjunction with Jack O’ Lantern Days in downtown Fish Creek, Hands On Art Studio is presenting the 1st Annual Jack O’ Lantern Blaze – a pumpkin carving event ending in a lighting ceremony.

The American Cheese Society is paying homage to Artisan cheese in all its glory with the first-ever American Cheese Month this October. American Cheese Month was created by the American Cheese Society to help raise awareness of the quality and diversity of American cheeses.

A groundbreaking documentary that provides an engaging and inspiring look at public education in the United States and has helped launch a movement to achieve a real and lasting change will be screened at the UU Fellowship on October 18 at 4:30 pm.

In the glow of lantern light, visitors will have an opportunity to tour the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse after sunset this fall. Guests to the lighthouse will step back in time, sharing in the adventures of the second keeper, William Duclon, who manned the lighthouse from 1883 – 1918.

The public is welcome to join Chef Terri Milligan on October 21 for an evening of memorable food and wine at The Inn at Kristofer’s “Autumn Harvest” gourmet wine dinner and cooking class.

October 21, the Kiwanis Club of Northern Door will present the second program of their “Travel and Adventure Film Season.” The event will be presented by internationally-recognized travel lecturer and cinematographer, John Holod, who will share the adventure of a lifetime with The Great Rocky Mountain RV Adventure – Part 2.

On October 22, the Door County Folk Alliance (DCFA) will host an old-fashioned barn dance from 7 – 9:30 pm. Although the dance will not be held in a barn, but rather in the Knights of Columbus Hall on Tacoma Beach Road near the intersection of County Road U and Highway 42/57 in Sturgeon Bay, the music and dances will be based on traditional barn, or contra, dances.

Well known as a hangover cure, a spicy treat on a brisk day and a perfect brunch companion, the Bloody Mary may well be the queen of cocktails. During Sister Bay’s Fall Festival, many people begin their day of revelry with a Bloody Mary.

It is no coincidence that Fire Prevention Week begins on October 9, the anniversary of the second day of both the Great Peshtigo Fire and the Great Chicago Fire.

October 13 Gibraltar Talks will present “The Caves of the Door Peninsula,” featuring two lifelong cavers – Bob and Dave Bultman. Their PowerPoint slideshow will highlight the geology of the rock beneath Door County, discuss cave formations and the county’s drinking water.

As the leaves turn colors, so does the beer trend. People’s palate shifts from light beers with hints of citrus and anything sparkling to darker brews.

October 8 will mark the conclusion of the fall museum hours for the Ephraim Village Museums, historic walking tours and tram tours. The museum buildings will close for the winter and re-open for Fyr Bal weekend on June 15, 2012.

The Landmark Resort has planned seven monthly Scrapbook Spectacular events for the coming months. They are scheduled for the first weekend of the month from November through May (with an exception in April, which will take place April 13 – 15).

From October 16 to 21, Lawrence University’s Bjِrklunden is offering the seminar “The Trojan War” with Daniel J. Taylor. This seminar will take place at Bjِrklunden’s lodge, just south of Baileys Harbor.
