    Attention dog owners! To help celebrate the new Sea Dogs exhibit the Door County Maritime Museum is sponsoring a photo contest from July 1 to Aug. 1.

  • Glass Creations at Heritage Program

    Sister Bay Historical Society’s Heritage Program on July 4 will feature artist Gary Chaudoir. He will display his work at the Historical Society’s Corner of the Past, located 1½ miles south of Sister Bay just off Highway 57 at 10310 Fieldcrest Road from 8:30 am until noon.

    From July 19 to July 24, Lawrence University’s Bj?rklunden is offering these seminars: “A Guided Tour Through the History of the American Musical Theater” with Roger Nelson and “Rebels, Heretics, and Eccentrics in Jewish History” with Michael Nutkiewicz.

  • Weekend of Dancing & Camaraderie

    Lovers of dance and music should make time for this year’s Door County Folk Festival, July 8 – 12, an extended weekend of dancing and camaraderie. This year’s staff are: guest dance instructors Marty Koenig, Larry Weiner and Dot Kent; Bulgarian singing instructor Tzvety Dosseva Weiner; musicians Lyuti Chushki Orchestra, Nick Bratkovich, A Rare Privilege and Chirps Smith; and a cast of local group leaders for beginning to advanced dance workshops.

    The Stuff-o-Rama flea market returns for 2015 on July 18 and September 6 (Labor Day weekend) at Domicile in Sister Bay. The flea markets are held on the grounds of Domicile, 10592 Hwy 57, at the corner of Canterbury Lane, entering Sister Bay.

    From July 12 – 17, Lawrence University’s Bj?rklunden is offering these seminars: “The Book of Kells and the Golden Age of Irish Art” with Ben Tilghman and “The Beatles…Four Lads Who Shook the World” with Carl Rath.

  • The Art of Taxidermy

    Master taxidermist Mike Orthober will be at the Door County Historical Museum most of the day on June 27 demonstrating the art and methods of taxidermy as he mounts a specimen for the museum’s permanent wildlife diorama.

    Join the Jacksonport Historical Society on June 24 at 7 pm at the Jacksonport Town Hall on County Highway V for a wonderful presentation by the Madden brothers.

    The first Gibraltar Talks of 2015 is “Yesteryears Fish Creek.” Richard Lauder will be the guest presenter to kick off the 2015 season, and he will showcase his recently expanded “Yesteryears Fish Creek” DVD on June 22 at the Old Town Hall in Fish Creek.

  • Historical Society Monthly Dinner

    The Door County Historical Society will host its monthly dinner and program meeting on June 22 at 6 pm at the Lodge at Leathem Smith. The program features Evergreen Nursery and will be delivered by owner Ron Amos.

    It all began with Ed Gein. The people of 1957 were horrified to hear the story of the 51-year-old Plainfield, Wisconsin, bachelor who robbed graves, killed at least two women and possibly his own brother, fashioned a female skin suit for himself, and probably cannibalized his victims.
