  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Poppy Drive Support

The members of American Legion Post 72 of Sturgeon Bay are extremely grateful for the generosity of all who supported our Poppy Drive on the Friday and Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. We enjoyed talking with veterans about their service and with family members of veterans. A big thank you, as well, to the management […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Caleb Frostman for the Wisconsin Senate

Are you concerned about water quality in Door and Kewanee counties? Air quality? Funding for public schools? The condition of public roads? Access to high-speed internet? Access to mental health professionals who might prevent a school shooting? Health care for opioid addiction? The privatization of prisons? Really affordable health care? Development of alternative energy technologies? […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Frostman a Win for Wisconsin

A sustainable Wisconsin future needs us to Vote for Caleb Frostman for State Senate. June 12th or before is an opportunity for voters in District #1 to bring Caleb Frostman to the state Senate to represent all constituents. Caleb has openly expressed what he has learned to be key challenges that need attention in the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Small Farms

Does anyone ever care that we are losing our smaller farms? Cheese factories shut down taking smaller farms’ milk because they can’t compete with the factory farms. Where is the fairness in that? The smaller farms are producing a better quality of milk than the big factory farms. Have you traveled the countryside and seen […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Support Tammy Baldwin

You know she’s effective because they’re committing lots of money to try and defeat her. She’s honest, hard-working, communicates caringly with her constituents. Think about how rare that’s become in today’s politics? Really think about it. Then support her integrity with your vote.   Gerri Friedberg Egg Harbor, Wis.

  • Letter to the Editor: Time to Vote Again

Andre Jacque is my choice. He is currently the Assemblyman for Wisconsin Assembly District 2 and he has a very conservative record of voting for the taxpayers. All three of the Wisconsin pro-life organizations have endorsed Andre Jacque, and only Andre. If you believe that those cells growing in mommy’s tummy will be a beating […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Frostman for Senate

“Frostman for State Senate,” the blue signs are everywhere. They are a sign of good things to come. On June 12 the voters of Wisconsin’s 1st Senate District will have the chance to vote for a state Senator that not only lives in the district but lives in and can responsibly represent Door County. Caleb […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Sturgeon Bay Legacy

On a beautiful early sunny morning in the Fall of 2003 I took a photo of the Midland Co-op building from the Maple/Oregon bridge. When recently I started painting the scene, the controversy was raging on what to do with this giant historic building. I knew then that I wanted to donate this painting, “Sturgeon […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Don’t Be Misled!

The negative, misleading radio ads attacking Andre Jacque’s service while in the Wisconsin Assembly, underscore our need for campaign financing reforms. Those ads, used by both parties, are paid for by Political Action Committees (PACs) set up by lobbyists, looking for favors once their candidate of choice is in office.   The ads are run […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Flag Protocol

In Sturgeon Bay, we are surrounded by a display of American flags as is fitting for a Coast Guard City. As we know, there are protocols for when and how to respectfully display our flag, (U.S. Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Sections 3-8). This code does not make exceptions for flags in flower pots left […]

  • Letter to the Editor: I Was Wrong on Kress Pavilion

Last year as I heard about unfolding plans for the new Egg Harbor Library and Pavilion, I had a ready judgment for just about everything I heard, and my judgments were much smaller than the vision which was being created by city leaders and donors. Why shut down and remove a going business to get […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Rolling Thunder

This Memorial Day weekend I was watching the news and the sight of all those Harley Davidsons riding through the streets of our capital, as a disabled veteran, I was not only moved, but extremely proud of something so synonymous with the state of Wisconsin. Unfortunately, I then reflected on a prior week’s news item […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Move to Amend Initiative is Well-intentioned

In the May 18 Pulse, Mr. Felhofer questioned the proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution, gives his opinions about campaign spending and blames the media as “opinion shapers” for faults in our election process. I respectfully disagree with his assessment of the meaning of the proposed constitutional amendment; or that “the media” is to blame […]

  • Letter to the Editor: ‘We, the People…’ Language of Division or Unity?

I was taught you never say “all, everyone, all the time, always, every time, and never.” “All” inclusive boxes are the bricks in the foundation of intolerance, anger, and division. The cement of the foundation? The verb ‘to be:’ “he is, she is, they are.” Put them together and you get “all of them are,” […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The U.S., North Korea and the Art of the Deal

With the date of a possible United States/North Korea summit approaching, it is worth considering how the two parties might pursue a deal. The Western mind always starts the deal from the position of demanding everything, giving nothing, and threatening dire consequences if a deal is not reached. The Eastern mind typically starts the deal […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Vote for Frostman

On June 12 we have the privilege and responsibility to vote for our missing representation in Wisconsin’s Special Election for Senate District 1. We will do this again in November’s regular election. I am thrilled to express my support for Caleb Frostman! I have known of Caleb since elementary school. He turned out to be […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Ephraim Yacht Club Says Thanks

Bernard Hayman, the editor of Yachting World Magazine, once said, “A man can pretend to be a lot of things in this world; but he can only pretend to be a sailor for as long as it takes to clear the harbor mouth!”   That is the reality and challenge by which sailors live. That challenge […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Trump Wins NFL National Anthem Debate

The NFL has now ordered all players to stand for the National Anthem and not kneel, or they can just stay in the locker room until after the opening ceremony. President Trump has won his victory over the issue. It is sad to see this since Trump does not honor or respect the U.S. Constitution […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Wizard of La Crosse

The Wizard of La Crosse has spoken and the Munchkins were given the message that Barack Obama was just wonderful in every way and Donald Trump was beyond description. The Wiz had a poll that said so, where Mr. Obama was number eight in the list of best presidents and Mr. Trump was off the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: New Leadership in Madison Needed

The Economic Policy Institute, or EPI, an independent economic policy research organization, recently released a study titled “As Wisconsin’s and Minnesota’s lawmakers took divergent paths, so did their economies.” Basically, the authors concluded that an average citizen would have been better off living in Minnesota than Wisconsin the past eight years. Virtually everything Gov. Scott […]
