  • Letter to the Editor: Hayes Represents Change

The majestic doorbell rings and I am greeted by Celie, the cutest puggle with an overbite. David is dressed in as many layers possible without looking totally ridiculous and together we hit the trail or what is more commonly known as door knocking. Many of the homes we go to the people are not home, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Sturgeon Bay PRAT Referendum Misleading

At first glance the referendum question for Sturgeon Bay residents appears rather harmless and a solution to the city’s crumbling roads. Take a closer look, and you’ll see that two words change everything about the small 0.5 percent levy tax. Those words being “infrastructure expenses,” followed by the statute where you’ll find the definition for […]

  • Letter to the Editor: This is Our Moment

Recently we’ve been spending time with 3 candidates running for City Council.  We are working alongside them as they pour their hearts and souls into this campaign. Running for election isn’t easy and is made more difficult by the winter weather as they go door-to-door introducing themselves and listening to voters. Here is what we’ve […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Support Judge Rebecca Dallet

On April 3 Wisconsin voters will elect a new Supreme Court justice who will begin a 10-year term on that court in August. We write to express our support for Judge Rebecca Dallet for this important position. We believe Judge Dallet’s experience makes her extremely qualified to serve on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. That experience […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Ideas for Law-Abiding Gun Owners

For a day or so I had hope that something might have happened to turn the corner on gun safety in the United States. I am so proud of the the young people from all over America who have taken the challenge to say “enough.” The President convened a bipartisan discussion and articulated a particularly […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Bultman for County Board

Thank you to my neighbors and supporters in District 19 for braving snow and ice to cast your votes for me in the primary election last month. I was humbled and honored to be chosen by you. This Tuesday, April 3, we again have the opportunity to participate actively in our representative government. I encourage […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thank You to Our Supportive Community

Northern Door Children’s Center is deeply grateful to everyone who made our 2018 Super Bowl-A-Thon fundraising event March 17 a big success. First and foremost, we thank Penny and Paula Anschutz and the staff of the Sister Bay Bowl. Without you and your generosity, there would be no Bowl-A-Thon! We deeply appreciate the following businesses […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Here’s Hoping for a Flood of Young Voters

It’s time to get out and vote. The Constitution of the United State of American gives each and every citizen the right to cast their vote in all elections. All should vote in every election no matter who is running and for what office or for what issue. Right now our young citizens are exercising […]

  • Letter ti the Editor: Vote for Hayes

Having grown up in Sturgeon Bay and having practiced medicine in Sturgeon Bay for 40 years, I have a strong connection to the Sturgeon Bay community and care about the issues and leadership in the city. Over 25 years, David Hayes has demonstrated his ability to serve his community, as a city planner/developer, Navy medic, archeologist, and small business […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Vote for Avenson

I have attended numerous city council meetings and committee meetings as a means of staying informed of city business. In my opinion, our local government has looked more and more to the courts and not the courts of public opinion to resolve situations. As a taxpayer, I choose the less expensive route. That method includes […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Consider My Candidacy for Gibraltar School Board

Some of you folks whom I have met since my arrival to Door County may know my story, but many of you undoubtedly do not. It is my second winter here, moving from the very much warmer (but not near as charming) state of Florida. The uprooting of my life for this move to Wisconsin […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Sea Grant Funding is No-Brainer

An article by Steven Maier appearing March 9 in urbanmilwaukee.com reveals that the proposed 2019 federal budget would completely eliminate funding for the college Sea Grant program. According to the article, this program with its annual budget of $73 million responds to regional and local problems by engaging faculty at local state universities and colleges […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Trying to Buy Our Votes

So, who do our elected representatives actually represent? What or who is influencing their decision when they vote on improving local roads vs. building a new library? When they vote to give billions of our tax dollars to a Chinese company, whose interests are on their minds? When they vote for or against reasonable measures […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Exercise Your Right to Vote

Voters for the Gibraltar School Board have a unique opportunity this election day on April 3, 2018. Two of the candidates running for a position on the school board have children currently attending Gibraltar Elementary School:  Write-in candidate Raymond Einhorn and vote for Angela Sherman. Both parents also have younger children that will be students […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Ban Assault Weapons

In response to the most recent tragedy in Parkland, Florida our Wisconsin legislators are preparing to vote on a school safety package. My concerns regarding this vote are: 57,000 voters in Assembly District 42 are currently unrepresented. 173,000 constituents and I in Senate District 1 are unrepresented. The elements of a school safety package under […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Fish Creek Parking Lot

I find it necessary to defend myself against a “post” concerning the expansion of the boat-trailer parking lot that was published by a fellow board member as a response to a Facebook post. The half-truths and innuendos of impropriety concerning recent events abound and my aim is to address them openly and honestly. Fish Creek […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Let’s Rebuild Faith in America

At 91, I have never been so disgusted with our representatives in Washington D.C. and Madison as I am now! Those brave and eloquent young students in Florida who are begging for some sign the adults in their government and country are willing to get behind them and do something positive and definitive following their […]

  • Letter to the Editor: What Happened to Us?

It is a puzzlement, what we expect from our young people. We want them to learn responsibility, yet we give them so little free rein. We want them to think for themselves, as long as they don’t stray too far from our own opinions. We want them to be respectful of their elders, yet what […]

  • Letter to the Editor: HELP of Door County Commends Door County Students

HELP of Door County commends and stands with Door County area high school students who joined with others all across Wisconsin and the US to demand common sense gun reform from their elected officials.  What gives us great hope was observing these students join with others all across Wisconsin and the US to demand common […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Support for Avenson

It is with great enthusiasm that I am writing in support of Kelly Avenson’s bid to become Sturgeon Bay’s next Alderperson in District 4. Kelly is an entrepreneur who has started and continues to operate two businesses in Sturgeon Bay. She is a tireless community builder, a quality that is reflected in her service as […]
