  • Letter to the Editor: Before Parking, Please Ask

Back in March of 2014, The Holiday Music Motel purchased the old Portside building that encompasses the lot between 1st and 2nd Avenues bordered by Louisiana on one side and The Holiday on the other. When the parking lot across the street at Stone Harbor fills up, the natural inclination has been for people to […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Strong Schools, Strong Community

The following is an excerpt from a letter to Door County public school staff by the Strong Schools Strong Communities initiative. Interested individuals can contact their school district’s superintendent for info. From the moment a child steps onto one of our buses, or onto our public school properties, they enter a nurturing environment. This environment, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Breaking Fast for Veterans

The members of the Door County Veterans Service Council would like to thank everyone who attended the Armed Forces Day Breakfast – all proceeds from the annual breakfast will be used to help needy veterans in Door County. The Veterans Service Council would also like to thank all of the posts and auxiliaries for providing […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Carbon Pricing Is the Answer

It’s time for our whole nation to join the clean-energy future. We don’t have time to fight state-by-state against fossil fuel corporations and the politicians they control. We need to tax fossil fuel out of existence, globally, in the next decade or so if we are to avert “catastrophic” climate change the worldwide scientific community […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Successful USPS Food Drive

Door County mail carriers have proclaimed their recent food drive a tremendous success. Thanks to the concern our customers have for their less fortunate neighbors, we collected almost 13 tons of food to help stock the shelves at Door County food pantries. The 24th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive was held nationwide on May […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Wear Orange

On June 2, 2016, you are invited to join millions of Americans to send a simple, undeniable message that we need to end gun violence in America. Started in 2013 to honor a friend who died from gun violence, some Chicago teens wore orange on his birthday. It has now evolved to a national movement. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: I Have A Plan

In 1968 Richard Nixon campaigned for the presidency on the basis of “I have a plan” to end the Vietnam War. He never articulated that plan, it was just “trust me.” From 1969 to 1972, Nixon’s first term, 21,126 U.S. servicemen died in Vietnam. Donald Trump has a plan to “Make America Great Again,” but […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Renewed Attention and Focus at Sevastopol

With recent changes in our district, we feel it is important to continue to communicate with you about the steps we’re taking to move forward. We are also asking for your help. Change is generally not easy and, at times, not everyone agrees with changes that are made. We know that is the case […]

  • Letter to the Editor: More Support Needed for Local Fire Departments

My compliments on your informative piece highlighting a fire fighter training class and, by extension, the fire & rescue service in northern Door County [“Two Veterans Train New Crop of Volunteer Firefighters” by Jim Lundstrom]. Public awareness is vital for increasing support of the local fire departments responsible for delivering these services. All of the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thankful for “Door to Nature” Columns

Seconds ago I turned the pages of the Pulse to read that Roy Lukes is at home battling cancer. Mr. Lukes, I thoroughly enjoy reading your column and am so thankful for the way you highlight aspects of nature that otherwise may be overlooked by a lot of us. Thank you for your gifts of […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Car Buyers

This is an unusual letter in that it is a consumer warning that almost certainly applies to you. You can take this letter either of two ways: as a consumer – beware when you go to buy a car; or as a political statement to show you which side your state government is on – […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Neighbors Who Care

I’m so grateful to live in a county that cares so deeply for one another. A few months ago, a group came together to find creative ways to assist our neighbors in finding resources in times of need. The first outcome of this work is a postcard every household will receive that provides detailed information […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Objectively Examine the Records

We have seen on TV an ad which is promoting Wisconsin’s Senator Johnson by criticizing Russ Feingold, his opponent in the upcoming election. The ad suggests a close relationship between Feingold and President Obama and it goes on to show persons involved in acts of terror and gun violence for the purpose of planting in […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Hoping Cooperation Will Continue

Last Saturday, May 7, NWTC and Liberty Grove held a joint open house at Liberty Grove Town Hall. As residents of Liberty Grove, we would like to thank all the NWTC and Liberty Grove staff who made the open house such a success. The open house was a very interesting and enjoyable event. On the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Wonderful Tribute to Roy

Myles – what a wonderful, gentle tribute to Roy Lukes! Your article is beautiful to read. Thank you for starting off my day by featuring Roy (and Charlotte) – and in so doing, helping me to remember to be more aware and mindful of the world around me. The Lukes’ have added so much to […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Inform Public about PCB Contamination of Fish

The Fox River Natural Resource Trustees released a draft update to the Restoration Plan & Environmental Assessment for a 30-day public comment period on how money should be spent from funds assessed to PCB polluters for damages. The comment period ends on May 6. With a mission to protect human health and the environment, it […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Always A Sad Goodbye When Dr. Roger Kuhns Leaves Town

It was with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to Roger after Wednesday night’s talk (April 27) at Björklunden, sponsored by the Climate Change Coalition of Door County (CCCDC). It is an unfortunate “twist of fate” that he has been forced to leave his beloved county for work reasons, when his expertise is […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Just Say No to Neonics

I must comment on “The Changing Landscape of Orchard Management” feature in the recent Sustainability Issue. The article describes the severe challenges posed by aggressive alien insects to the production of marketable fruits. “Finding the balance that will keep the orchards profitable while maintaining a healthy environment” will be especially difficult if one of the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Gibraltar Job Fair Success

Thank you to the 30 employers representing 38 businesses that attended the Gibraltar Job Fair on Thursday, April 28. The event was a win-win for both students and employers. We look forward to hosting the event again next year based on the feedback from our participants. And a special shout out to our DECA hosts […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Anyone Notice Two Russell Feingolds?

It would be difficult not to notice that there is a Feingold running for the U.S. Senate as the airways are collapsing under the weight of Feingold commercials breathlessly announcing that he has a plan to keep America safe; that he will, if necessary, singlehandedly repel all evildoers from our shores and do all sorts […]
