  • Letter to the Editor: Feeling Sorry for Biden

I can’t be the only guy who feels sorry for Joe Biden. After the 2016 election, with the defeat of Hillary and the retirement of President Obama, Biden was the most prominent and respected Democrat politician in the nation. Little did he know that the time for “conventional” Democrats had expired. Extreme left-wing socialist activists […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Note to Tom Perez

A note to Tom Perez, Chair of the Democratic National Committee … Helloo!!!! Are you there? You missed a golden opportunity to push back against a singularly shameful episode from the President regarding the four House Congresspersons who recently were the targets of his tweets. Of course, the goal, as always, is to defeat him […]

  • Letter to the Editor: ‘Incorrect, Ignorant, Divisive’

Today, July 14, 2019, our President, on Twitter, told 4 Congresswomen in the House of Representatives to “go back to the countries they came from”. This is such an incorrect, ignorant, and divisive thing to say. Three of these Congresswomen were born in America, and one was born in Somalia and is now an American […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Writing about Lyme Disease

I’d like to thank Celeste for writing about Lyme Disease being on the rise. I was bit in our yard in Egg Harbor in 2013 and never saw the tick on me, even after a tick check. It was a nymph deer tick which is as small as a period.  I only hope Door County […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Better Solution Than Stopping Dog and Cat Sales

This is a response to a news item from Wisconsin Public Radio, and published in the June 28, 2019 issue of the Peninsula Pulse newspaper. The subject in question is a bill authored by state representative LaKeshia Myers (D-Milwaukee), that would prohibit pet stores from selling dogs and cats, beginning Jan. 1. President and CEO […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The ‘Minute-And-A-Half Man’

Following is a copy of a letter included in a gift for our great grandson’s first birthday: The Minute-And-A-Half Man is a book long out of print; however there is a story behind the story. My husband Bob was in college from 1963-1967 at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. Bob read to our son each […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Connecting Dots

The other day I submitted a letter about connecting the dots between water quality issues and elected officials. That is still a very good idea. However, we must be ever vigilant when it comes to dot connecting. Let’s keep connecting the dots between public policy and elected officials.  Recently our nation commemorated D-Day. A remarkable day in […]

  • Letter to the Editor: EYC Says Thanks!

Not wishing to be political, it was once said, “It takes a village” or, to paraphrase, “It takes a county with generous merchants.” Due to the generosity of the Door County merchants who donate items to Ephraim Yacht Club Aaron R. Moore Sailing Scholarship Fund, a Fund of Door County Community Foundation, Inc. and club […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Ideas to Improve Elections and More

Today the president sat at his desk and tried to convince us that we have the greatest democracy in the world. There was a time when I believed that. Today I am not so sure. The information we receive is dominated by huge sums of money pumped into campaigns by big money and people in […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Go Be a Tourist!

Ah, to be a local. Our usually sleepy little town is pretty chaotic from time to time. The week of the 4th is a prime example but this is our income. Tourism is our main industry and it’s a terribly short season. We do our best to provide fun and safe activities that make a […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Independence Day and the Military

July 4, 1776 was a day when the greatest civil heroism in history was demonstrated. As of that date, July 4, 1776, not one of the signer’s of the declaration faced death or injury on the battlefield, there was no battlefield on that day. In fact, as of that date there was no certainty that […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Good Time at Fiddlers Farm

On County C, just a few miles west of Sturgeon Bay, is one of Door County’s best kept secrets that should not be a secret. Dan and Terri Rass, along with their daughter Hanna and her fiancée Nick Dumas took an old red barn and turned it into a magical musical wonderland. There is certainly […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Gerrymandering Back in Our Court

To scathing dissent, the Supreme Court has punted on gerrymandering. They threw it back to the states to correct the undemocratic process of redrawing voting district boundaries favoring the political party in power. The process dates back to before the ink was dry on the Constitution, back to when women were not allowed to vote. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thank You for Keeping Door2Door Rolling

Thank you to the Door County Board of Supervisors for taking the action you did [recently] and approving a continuation of the Door2Door transportation system we have today. Thank you for funding it from unassigned reserve funds by creating a Transportation Fund to operate for the next 3 years, 2020-2023, and for approving a transportation […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Kindness of Neighbors

Two weeks ago I had gotten about half way finished with cutting my lawn and then, “bang!” It’s that awful noise you hear when you know you’ve just had a break down. A belt had slipped off my mower deck and I wasn’t driving anymore. Not being a handy man I took it over to […]

  • Letter to the Editor: White Clover Drive a Success

AMVETS Post 51 Sturgeon Bay would like to thank the residents of Sturgeon Bay, Door County and visitors who helped make AMVETS White clover Drive a great success. Thank you again. AMVETS Post 51 also would like to thank Econo Foods and Pic ’N Save for being very accommodating for the AMVETS White Clover Drive. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: MILK Act Facts

Per your recent coverage of the Milk In Lunches for Kids (MILK) Act sponsored by Senators Ron Johnson and Pat Toomey, their rationale explaining skim milk as the reason that “milk consumption has notably declined in schools across the country” does not correspond with the facts. As noted by Fox News (June 8, 2018, foxnews.com/us/dairy-farmers-hit-hard-by-declining-milk-demand), […]

  • Letter to the Editor: An Open Letter to My Councilwoman

You were elected to office in April 2018 and frankly I am very disappointed in your performance. You frequently proclaim you are working for the taxpayers/citizens of the 4th district, but your actions suggest you are working only for the NBDH; Friends of Westside; SBHS group. I offer as evidence the following: In July 2018 […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Bike Man Responds

I would like to thank Aleah Kidd for the article she wrote about my retirement and especially the way she captured the essence of our interaction with the J-1 students as more than just issuing them a bicycle. Some clarification is also necessary. It is true that my involvement began many years ago with those […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Mercury: Reason to Embrace a Clean Energy Economy

A recently published long-term study by Carl Watra from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Limnology has spurred on a broader look at mercury in Wisconsin. Climate change causes “roller coaster” mercury levels in Wisconsin fish as reported by the Cap Times, June 9, 2019. The article brings attention to the connection between climate change, […]
