Door County summers are made for live music! Check out a show in a bar, a sunset concert in the park in almost any village, a professional performance venue, or a concert in a rustic barn. Door County’s live music scene features every genre, local favorites and nationally touring artists.

  • Collaborative Writing, Collaborative Performing

    For the past week musicians and songwriters including Geri X, Ruby James, Vincent Gates, James Hall, Chris Aaron, Kim Manning, and many, many more, have gathered together at the Holiday Music Motel in Sturgeon Bay writing ‘dark’ songs, planning costumes, and recording original music.

    Last weekend, The Nicks (and friends) rocked the bowling alley at Sister Bay Bowl, luring the Fall Fest crowd on the dance floor with tunes like “Psycho Killer” and “Rock Me Mamma.”

    Like the immortal Johnny Cash, Edgar Allan Poe was known to dress in black and like many of history’s mad geniuses, Poe died penniless. Befitting the great mystery writer, Poe’s death arose from mysterious causes under even more mysterious circumstances.

  • Audition Dates Released for 2013 DC Idol

    Important dates were recently released for the 2013 Door County Idol Competition. The competition will be held Jan. 5 at 7 pm at the Southern Door Auditorium, where the show will have an overall new look.

  • Captain John to Perform at Joe Jo’s

    After playing and working in Illinois, Captain John is bringing his music back to Door County. Beginning Nov. 3 at Joe Jo’s Pizza and Gelato, Capt. John’s Acoustic Live Concerts will be held Saturday nights in Nov. and Dec.

  • New Fall Fest Favorite

    Fall Fest’s musical line-up promises to please the crowd this weekend – Door County favorites including Modern Day Drifters, Hoi Polloi, The Nicks, and Unity will take to the Sister Bay stages.

  • “Dark Songs” Presented at TAP

    On Oct. 27 at 7 pm, Third Avenue Playhouse hosts “Dark Songs: The Edgar Allen Poe Polka.” This show is the annual October songwriting/recording/live-performance event produced and sponsored by The Holiday Music Motel, and is inspired by the life and works of Edgar Allen Poe.

  • Irwin and Friends Perform on Washington Island

    Tennessee native and American Folklore Theatre veteran Chris Irwin returns to Washington Island’s Trueblood Performing Arts Center on Oct. 7 at 7:30 pm.

  • From Golden Boy to Glas Hamr

    Glas Hamr stands as a classic Door County band with a knack for luring listeners of all ages off their bar stools and on the dance floor with their selection of rock songs that spans over three decades.

  • Cookery Continues Music Series in October

    The Cookery’s wine bar will continue to host a music series during October. The series features Chris Irwin and Jeanne Kuhns on October 5, Seth Raddatz and Marybeth Mattson on October 12, The Nicks on October 19 and Highland Road on October 26.

  • “You Are the Music of My Silence”

    A new instrumental CD, You Are the Music of My Silence, featuring award-winning Canadian musician Harry Manx and Door County musician Hans Christian, was recently released on the Allemande Music label.

  • The Cookery Features Katie Dahl on Wednesdays

    On Wednesdays, Sept. 26 – Oct. 17, Katie Dahl will play at The Cookery’s wine bar from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Dahl is a Door County folksinger known for her sharp-witted lyrics, intricate melodies, and engaging performances.

  • UUF Welcomes Katie Dahl and Rich Higdon

    On Sept. 21 at 7 pm, folk singer-songwriter Katie Dahl will perform at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Ephraim. Rich Higdon, West Jacksonport’s resident bassist-percussionist and founding member of the Sheboygan-based blues band, the Water Street Hot Shots, will join Dahl.

  • Bent Grass Plays at TAP

    The Kimberley House is sponsoring a fundraising concert at Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay on Sept. 15 at 7:30 pm. Bent Grass is a bluegrass group from Green Bay that plays not only bluegrass but standards and originals as well.

  • Waterfront Mary’s: Live Music with a Great View

    Waterfront Mary’s Bar and Grill in Sturgeon Bay has offered the city and county an abundance of live music since its inception nearly a decade ago. As one of the few places providing a live music outlet throughout the year, including the quiet winter months, residents and visitors alike have made the waterfront bar a regular destination.

    A round of one-dollar “mystery shots” at Cooper’s Corner was more than enough to loosen the lips of the young crowd, who came out for Wednesday karaoke.

  • Burroughs and Smith Bring Soulful Harmonies to County Stages

    Multi-instrumentalist Tommy Burroughs and fellow Memphis musician, Eddie Smith, will take Door County stages by storm throughout Labor Day weekend. Seen in Door County most recently in “Buckets of Rain,” Burroughs is an accomplished songwriter and one of the most respected multi-instrumentalists in the Memphis area.
