  • All opinions expressed in letters are those of their authors and not those of the Peninsula Pulse, its owner or staff.
  • Amoral Presidency

As I read a recent letter in the Peninsula Pulse, I choked on my glass of chardonnay. The writer declared she voted for Trump “To Make America Great Again.” She wrote of “hatred of the opposition, including most of the media” and directs we should respect the office. Trump demeans the office! He does not […]

  • Our State Parks in Perspective?

I was out on the Sunset Bike Trail blowing leaves this week and while walking the trail I noticed several signs nicely repainted and/or added for improved navigation. It made me think about the similar tasks I needed to complete on my 1 acre property. I can only imagine the list of tasks like this […]

  • Kress Pavilion Is a Community Builder

It comes to mind that, not too long ago, a letter appeared here questioning the wisdom of building the Kress Center in Egg Harbor. Well, question no more! Over the past year and a half, my husband and I have attended a number of events at the Kress and have found it to be wonderfully […]

  • Thanks for Making Earth Day Festival a Great Success

The Every Day Is Earth Day Festival held April 26-28 at the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor was a great success, attended by more than 500 people prepared to make their lives more earth friendly. EDED was designed to educate, inspire and disseminate information about the environment, near and far. Growing concerns about air and […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Most People Outgrow Name-Calling

As youngsters most of us called others names or ourselves had a nickname or created one for other people but with the exception of retaining a few respectable nicknames as we matured we began referring to people properly. Today we have a President who, speaking to crowds many of whom possess his mentality, refer to […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Time for a Moral Reckoning Is Now

It is never easy to do the right thing, especially in these times. It is much easier to look the other way and do nothing. Where are the voices of moral leadership today regarding the actions of Donald Trump? I expected evangelicals of Protestant and Catholic persuasions to speak out, but they are silent. They […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Fire Chiefs Association Opposes EMS Privatization

The Door County Fire Chiefs Association represents the Ten (10) Fire Departments serving the citizen’s and guests of Door County. The Fire Chiefs, the Departments they represent and the communities they serve have a long and positive partnership with Door County EMS in providing emergent care to the sick and injured across Door County. The […]

  • Letter to the Editor: ‘Take a look in the mirror, Ms. O.’

Signe Onsrud appears to be sadly oblivious to the contradictions in her recent letter. She expresses opposition to abortion, which is her personal right, and two exclamation point-filled (!) paragraphs later, writes: ‘…I desire more individual freedom to make choices according to my Christian faith…’ Individual freedom IS what abortion is about. A woman, any […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Great America Fantasy

Signe Onsrud wrote a very polite letter published May 3rd in the Peninsula Pulse, letter entitled Make America Great Again. This is a Trump fantasy – let’s look at a few facts. The economy appears to be great and to be gaining momentum. Trumps budget for 2019-20 is $4.746 Trillion. The government’s own forecast for […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Why Not Protect the Water in Our ‘Celebrate Water’ Year?

We are about to finish a year of education and celebration of Door County waters. Politicians are bragging about their role, symposiums are being held. And so why, I wonder, do I see signs on lawns at resorts and in public parks and at private homes up and down the county warning that the area […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Support the Governor’s Proposal for a Nonpartisan Redistricting Commission

Gerrymandering is one of the chief causes of the vitriolic partisan divide plaguing our democracy at both the national and state levels. Gerrymandering is the redrawing of voting maps in ways that favor one party. Gerrymandering is achieved by a governing party (1) “packing” – which consists of redrawing district lines so as to include as […]

  • Letter to the Editor: In Response to a MAGA Nut

One reason in not responding earlier is that I saw according to FB she is a retired nurse just as I am, I also have a nurse friend who is anti-vax so an RN doesn’t give you immunity to conspiracy theories. I do not at all mind someone having an opinion that differs from mine, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Use the Unassigned Fund Balance to Pay for Door 2 Door

Recent news has focused attention on transportation in our county and the risk that we may lose a service provided through the Door County Department of Health and Human Services. Door2Door (D2D) has been through several transitions in attempting to provide ridership throughout the county. Northern Door did not take advantage of it when stationed […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Come One, Come All …

to the Door County Master Gardeners Plant Sale! The annual event will take place on Saturday, May 18, 8-Noon. New this year, the Master Gardeners are hosting a special ticketed event called ‘1st Pick’ on Friday, May 17, 5-7pm. This is an opportunity for shoppers to purchase beautiful perennials, annuals, herbs and vegetable plants at […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Municipal Money and Tax Breaks for Homesharers?

I want to thank Ashley Lusk for explaining advantages of home sharing for mutual benefit [Peninsula Pulse’s Sustainability Issue]. I thought of another dimension. We don’t need employees – ours have been with us a long time and micromanage us because they are that good. However, I understand the housing shortage in Door County and […]

  • Letter to the Editor: An Appeal to Democrats and Independents

As the first Democratic debates draw closer (June 26 and 27), I think that we can all agree that the overriding goal of the 2020 presidential election is: Make sure that this President is not re-elected. To help reach that goal, we can also agree that any nominee of the Democratic party would be a […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Make America Great Again!

This is a letter to all Door County residents. After reading the letter of Glenna Peters in the last Pulse I feel that I must respond. I voted for President Donald Trump to “Make America Great Again”! Do I agree with everything he says and does? No! There are times that I shudder at the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Baileys Harbor Annual Town Meeting

As I have talked with people from towns and villages throughout northern Door County, I have come to realize that having an Annual Town Meeting is somewhat unique for Baileys Harbor, and is truly a great community event bringing together people that care about their community and their neighbors. We definitely had some big topics […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Earth Day 2019

As we stand on the cusp of the environmental challenges we face, we have choices to be made by all of us. These are no solo journeys; we are a community traveling together on this planet of ours. Our common goals should be to work towards solutions for climate change, the overuse of our natural […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Plea for Respect and Decency

The mean spiritedness and ugliness that is rampant in our country has to stop. And I believe this has to stop at the top with the election of a new president. Our democracy needs responsible presidential conduct from the leader of our great county. We don’t have to agree with our neighbors or particularly like […]
