  • Letter to the Editor: Good For Sean Ryan

I think that everyone loves the Fall 50. With the exception of a letter to the editor written last week [“Editorial Discretion Needed” by Katrina Hull], I’ve never even heard a negative comment. What is wrong with “Drunk Wives Matter” as a team name, and worse yet, the winning team name?! Oh no! When did […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Fate of the Granary

To the Editor, Depending on the fate of the Granary Building in Sturgeon Bay, here are two alternative Letters To The Editor. Letter #1:  “Shame on you! Shame on us! We have lost an iconic, historic, salvageable landmark due to the forces of ‘development’ and worse. It had the potential of being a beloved residents’ […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Tax Reform Hogwash

Imagine you are in a room with 100 people. You have $100 which is supposed to be distributed fairly within the group. You decide that the richest person in the room is going to get $61. The other 99 people will have the remaining $39 distributed among them. That will result in an average of […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Discouraging Direction

As a citizen of this wonderful, diverse, and democratic country, it’s discouraging to see the direction our country is heading. We have a president who governs by Twitter, by untruths, by name calling, by distraction, and by quietly dismantling many environmental regulations that protect our water, land and air. This is not healthy for our […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Controversy!

I’m talking about some NFL players conducting political demonstrations during the pre-game playing of our National Anthem. Isn’t it our right as Americans to protest if we wish? Of course it is! But, in my opinion, this is a big mistake on the part of the players. Why? Well, this is as divisive as it […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Granary’s Fate

Shame on you! Shame on us! We have lost an iconic, historic, salvageable landmark due to the forces of “development” and worse. It had the potential of being a beloved residents’ center and a tourist attraction, reflecting the pride of a unique city. Instead, the Granary Building will appear on the cover of Lost Door […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Oppose SB 395 and AB 499

Twenty years ago the Wisconsin Legislature passed the “Prove it First” mining bill by an overwhelming majority. The bill stated that a mine could not be built in sulfide rock deposits until an example was found of a sulfide mine that had operated successfully without harming nearby streams and lakes. Mining in sulfide deposits is […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Search/Rescue/Recover

Grateful. That’s how I feel for the men and women who either make it their life’s work or volunteer their time when someone goes missing in the beautiful, but dangerous waters that surround us in Door County. What a blessing for all of us that there are people at the other end of the line […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Rep. Scott Allen Sides with Crony Capitalists

Nineteen states have called for a Constitutional amendment that would overturn the disastrous Citizens United decision. Representative Scott Allen won’t even allow a public hearing on a resolution that would let Wisconsinites vote on this core issue of our time. While many politicians may like unlimited and often undisclosed campaign contributions, the rest of America […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Editorial Discretion Needed

Thank you to the Door County community and all the volunteers that helped organize the Fall 50 on October 21. The Door County Fall 50 is a celebration of running and nature, yet I am disheartened by what happened at the awards ceremony:  A best team name award given to “Drunk Wives Matter.” It’s not […]

  • Letter to the Editor: We Gotta Stop Hatin’ on Each Other

I’ve been reading the letters to the editor that oppose the Trump administration and now I’ve also read two recent letters from people who support the president. But I was struck by what I think is a glaring difference between the two sides:  the anti-Trump side is directing its anger at elected officials such as […]

  • Letter to the Editor: What’s the Big Deal?

So what if players take a knee or sit through the anthem? Vice President Pence left a football game because the player protest “disrespects our soldiers, our flag and our National Anthem.” I repeat, so what? Countless soldiers have died defending our freedoms, one of which is the freedom of speech, which is what all […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Why I Stand

It has taken a long time but the owners of Facebook and Twitter finally revealed that millions of dollars, actually it was rubles, of fake news ads were bought by Russians to influence our last federal election for president in 2016. Many ads told lies about Clinton and encouraged Americans to vote for Trump. On […]

  • Letter to the Editor: To All Eagle Tower Supporters

Since last summer I have greatly enjoyed the opportunity to represent the community and direct the fundraising campaign for Eagle Tower. At times it was overwhelming to experience the positive support that exists in the Door County community. As we transition into the off season I am stepping down as Campaign Director for the Eagle […]

  • Letter to the Editor: October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

During October – National Domestic Violence Awareness Month – HELP of Door County invites area residents to learn more about domestic abuse. Last year, 73 people in Wisconsin lost their lives to domestic violence – that’s one death every five days. One in four women will be the victim of domestic violence at some point […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Enablers & Hypocrites

Our conservative federal government is made up of many hypocrites and enablers. We have seen a number of FOX network executives and newsmen either resign or were fired and now a famous successful movie producer loses a high position in business all because of sexual harassment issues. Recently a Republican Congressman, who fought against abortion, […]

  • Eagle Tower Is Just 72 Inches Short of State Record

Eagle Tower should be restored, in a way that lives up to the expectations and pride that all the citizens of Door County deserve. After all, Door County citizens are contributing $750,000 towards the tower replacement, not to mention even more indirectly thru their matching taxpayer dollars. The Eagle Tower that was just removed, replaced […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Right Or Privilege?

In last week’s issue of this newspaper, Oct. 6, 2017, in the section that tells us what our various governmental representatives are up to, I learned that Senator Ron Johnson believes that food, shelter, and healthcare are privileges. He says that it’s government’s job to ensure an economy stable enough that people can afford these […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Better Design Needed

As I was reading the recent Pulse article about the three DNR concepts for a replacement tower at the park, what struck me were two things. First, all three concepts were ugly and way overbuilt for the spirit of the park. Second, the proposed costs were exorbitant when one considers the fiscal condition of both […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Attack Mode

Tom from Luxemburg observed that the “NorDor anti-Trump hate-mongers have been extremely active on the Pulse’s opinion page lately.” My observation is that they’ve been in “attack mode” since Nov. 6 last year and are actually slowing a bit. The Oct. 6 Pulse had only four of the standard “Hate President Trump” letters from the […]
