  • Letter to the Editor: A Modern Sad Tale

Every morning brings more news about the assault of the common man and rewards for corporations and the wealthy; the taking away of our health care, the giving away of our environment and even being able to kill sleeping animals’ are just a few assaults. The President and Secretary of State meeting with Russian officials […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Insurance?!

“Practice?! We talkin’ ‘bout practice?!” Ah, the immortal indignation of Allen Iverson. Allow me to retort. Insurance?! We talkin’ ‘bout insurance?! Every conversation I have about healthcare insurance starts with “insurance is a scam” (yes, we agree) and quickly devolves to “but, the government must mandate we all buy insurance” (no, no, no). I invite […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Lost Trust in Gallagher

If I could speak face to face with our Wisconsin District 8 Representative to the U.S. Congress, Mike Gallagher, I would ask him to explain his vote in favor of the health care “robbery” bill recently passed by the House of Representatives. When the first, failed bill was withdrawn before a vote, I and many […]

  • Letter to the Editor: 90 Days Wasted

The appeal of Hawaii’s challenge to the executive order banning immigration from six predominately Muslim countries is being televised live as I write this. This order, on its face, ordered an immigration ban for 90 days so the government could review its immigration procedures. This is due, according to arguments by the Trump administration, to […]

  • Letter to the Editor: High Schoolers for Workforce

Catching up on old issues of the Peninsula Pulse now that we’re back in Door County, the plight of shop owners, restaurants, hotels/motels, etc. caught my eye. Due to Pres. Trump’s cuts, the shortage of Internationals being allowed to come to work this year has caused a shortage of help for many of these businesses. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks to All Involved with Shipyard Tours

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay, thanks to all the guests, volunteers and event sponsors for the 24th annual Shipyard Tours on Saturday, May 6. Special thanks to Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, Centerpointe Yacht Services, the Maritime Museum, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mobile Bay, the US Coast Guard Canal Emergency Rescue Boat, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Children’s Center Thanks Supportive Community

Northern Door Children’s Center is deeply grateful to everyone who made our 2017 Super Bowl-A-Thon fundraising event on April 8 a great success. First and foremost, we thank Penny Anschutz and the staff of the Sister Bay Bowl. Without you and your generosity, there would be no Bowl-A-Thon! We offer our appreciation to the following […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Congressman Mike Gallagher Voted Against You

On Thursday, May 4th, Gallagher voted for the Trumpcare bill. In Door County we have 26,800 residents of whom approximately 26 percent are over 50 years old. If Trumpcare becomes law and if you are over age 50 (and under 65), your premiums will skyrocket. Approximately, one third of all Americans have pre-existing conditions. So […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Stony Ridge Problems Not Acceptable

We collectively are complaining that Keith Garot, Developer of Stony Ridge, is not completing the construction of that development along with constructing the road to connect Northwoods Drive to the other roads in Stony Ridge. We have put up with the blasting, digging, and grinding on that property most of last summer. The noise and […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Real Family Farms Need A Future

Chickens learn from experience, people, not so much! Another application for expansion of an already huge dairy herd has been submitted to the Wisconsin DNR. This time in Kewaunee County and is also a permit renewal and expansion request for a Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation just across the county line. The earlier request from a […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Appreciate the Imagination and Wit

Everyone knows that part of the “hate and defeat” Trump crusade is to flood the nation’s newspapers with vitriolic letters to the editor and the Pulse has had its fair share in spades. The object, of course, is to give the impression that the entire country is opposed to this madman in the White House! […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Ripple Effect

This letter has to do with allowing the CAFO to expand their dairy herd from 6,000 cows to 10,000 cows. Now to clean up this pollution I understand we the taxpayers should provide the money to clean up this situation. (I say that is the polluter’s responsibility.) Have you noticed the ripple effect? The DNR […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Moral Choice?

After my request that renewable energy be included in the Department of Energy budget, Senator Ron Johnson responded to me that “irresponsible spending” was “immoral…and must stop.” Renewable energy is immoral? This, from our senator who has marched in lockstep with Donald Trump in the president’s assault on the environment and on health care for […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Literacy Door County Celebrates

Literacy Door County celebrated their first annual Student/Tutor Recognition Event on Sunday, May 7 at Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay. This event acknowledged the hard work and commitment both our students and our tutors have made. Since many of our students have families and job responsibilities, they know the necessity to improve their speaking and […]

  • Letter to the Editor: How Far Will It Go?

In a March of 2016 editorial, the Chicago Tribune cited 50 uses of the word “disaster” by candidate Donald Trump. Examples of “disaster” in Trump tirades were the Affordable Care Act, urban crime, the TPP, NAFTA, immigration laws, the Electoral College, and everything relating to Hillary Clinton. The writer made no claim that this list […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Trying to Make Them Listen

“Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all” – those words were composed as part of the Pledge of Allegiance in 1887 and formally adopted by Congress in 1942. More than something routinely recited in classrooms and at special events, those words are still incredibly relevant today. There is a movement crisscrossing America that goes by […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Time and Talent

On behalf of myself, the Neighbor to Neighbor board of directors, volunteers, and those we serve, I would like to thank Catholic Financial Life Chapter 213 – Sturgeon Bay and their team, including Rachel DeMeuse, president, Don Kuehn, vice president, and Patricia A. Kaye, secretary/treasurer, for their hard work in preparing for and holding the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Consider Fostering Kittens

May and June often bring kittens. Far too often, those little babies are not welcome. Spay/neuter is the only answer to ending the issue of unwanted feline litters, but that is not what this letter is about. This letter is about taking care of those kittens. If your cat has kittens and you are not […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Presidential Conflicts of Interest

Our President should be the guardian of the American people. We should be able to trust his motives and thus his decisions. So far President Trump has not inspired much trust. President Trump is the first president in 40 years to not show the American people his tax returns. How can we trust any tax […]

  • Letter to the Editor: An Idea for the Parks

If I make a campsite request, I pay for the site. Then I pay for what amounts to another fee. I asked the head guy, at the main entrance to Peninsula State Park. He said we’re in the business of providing campsites, not making reservations. Maybe they should be. I think of all the roads, […]
